A peek back reveals some similarities between painters across the millennia. Today's artists are motivated by diverse goals, so we can only speculate what motivated Pleistocene artists. Maybe some things never change. The surviving art in places like Cosquer Cave, where ancient paintings of penguins still remain, offers few clues of it's purpose. Why did they paint? What were they trying to accomplish?

Pleistocene boy is painting a story for his playmates. Without electricity or modern distractions, maybe they too treasured nighttime simply enjoying themselves any way they could.
