The Sandman is a mythical creature who is said to sprinkle sand into the eyes of children at night. This sand induces pleasant dreams and a good night’s sleep. But much like the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus, the Sandman has sometimes taken on a darker, more mysterious character in recent days. As script and book writers, alike, have pulled him from his innocently set disposition into a whole new ominous environment, the Sandman’s character has evolved. My piece casts light on both the traditional and contemporary standpoints of the Sandman.

Victoria Steel spent a fair bit of her early childhood sniffing scented markers and chewing up old crayons.  She found drawing and painting to be her obsessions; and so, Victoria decided to form her passion for art into a career. It was 2012 when she graduated high school and was presented an immediate seat at the Ani Art Academy Waichulis studio. Now an artist studying under the talented trompe l’oeil artist, Anthony Waichulis, Victoria aims to develop a high level of technical skill so she, too, can enjoy drawing and painting realistically.
